Mum and dad went to Whitby yesterday for the regatta and judging by the dripping waterproofs and sodden socks that came back, I missed a drenching of biblical proportions.
Some braves managed to take part in their event despite the remains of hurricane Bertha whipping up the sea and later turning to thunder storms.
With sailing eventually curtailed, mum and dad decided to get some fish and chips and later turned to the narrow streets full of quaint little shops but didn’t really feel they could go in to many as the torrents of rain dripping from their waterproofs would damage the lovely item on display.
Finally, as water squelched in their shoes with every step, they spied a little cafe called Beckett’s. The staff were very friendly and it soon became evident that this was a great little find.
Beckett’s not only serve a great cup of tea and coffee but they have a selection of wonderful cakes and seem to have quite a soft spot for us doggies too. In fact, this is where my mum and dad met Murphy.
Murphy, a very well behaved Cocker Spaniel / Shitzhu cross, entered the coffee shop with his owner and took up what seemed to be a regular place at the coffee table by the window. Around Murphy’s neck was a little red rosette with “First” written on it.
It transpired that Murphy had entered a competition that day (The Regatta Scrufts dog show) and took first prize for most handsome dog…..this, his owner said was despite Murphy having a hair cut a few days before.
His reward for the day was his very own bowl with some pieces of sausage and a lovely drink of cool water.
Having posed for a number of photographs for the staff and customers, Murphy availed himself of his prize supper and a well earned rest out of the rain.
Well done Murphy.
I think I need to visit this coffee shop with my mum and dad next time.
